Bicholim, Feb 29 (TOI): Representatives of the Naik Gaonkar, Gauns and Gosavi community, who are mahajans of Kelbai Devasthan, Mayem have demanded allotment of their rights as per the Supreme Court order.
They have urged the Bicholim mamlatdar to implement the order, as it would empower them to vote during the election process. Speaking to mediapersons at Bicholim, the other devasthan mahajans belonging to these communities, led by Tukaram Naik Gaonkar, stated that the order of declaring them as mahajans of Kelbai Devasthan, Mayem, was first passed by JMFC Bicholim in 1984.The same was upheld by district court, high court of Bombay at Goa, and Supreme Court. "Till date, we have not been given the voting rights as the process of making us mahajans has been delayed," Gaonkar and others said.
