Stellenbosch (South Africa), Feb 26 (IANS): The Indian women's hockey team continued their winning run with a 5-0 victory over Scotland here.
The first period of the match on Thursday started with India looking for an early goal but the Scottish defence refused to give them any clear shot at the goal. Scotland tried to gain the upper hand in the second quarter but India refused to give away ball possession and the first half ended goalless.
The third quarter started with India looking determined to score. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute from a penalty shot conversion by Rani who soon made it 2-0 for India with another penalty corner conversion (42nd minute). Deepika made it 3-0 (45th) through a field goal.
India continued the momentum into the last quarter of the game with Anuradha Devi Thokchom scoring the fourth goal in the 54th minute. Gurjit Kaur registered the fifth from a penalty corner (59th) to establish a strong win for India.
The tour started with India defeating South Africa 1-0 in Cape Town on February 20. India then drew 2-2 against the hosts. The visiting team then defeated the junior South African team 3-1 and then 8-0 in two back-to-back matches before taking on Scotland.
They will next play two matches against Germany on February 27 and 28 before playing one more game against Scotland on March 1.
