Tokyo, Feb 24 (IANS): Tokyo shares opened the trading on Wednesday lower as sentiment here was weighed down by the yen's appreciation and the oil prices' retreat.
At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 282.92 points, or 1.76 percent, from Tuesday to 15,769.13, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 21.62 points, or 1.67 percent, to 1,269.55.
