Berlin, Feb 20 (IANS): Hamburg were held to a goalless draw by Frankfurt in the opening match of the 22nd round of the German Bundesliga.
Frankfurt stopped their two-game losing streak after securing one point on home soil against wasteful Hamburg, who reaped the sixth draw of the season on Friday, reports Xinhua.
The "Eagles" staged a weak first-half performance and were lucky that Hamburg squandered a couple of promising opportunities through Artjoms Rudnevs, Gotoku Sakai and Nicolai Mueller.
After the restart, the hosts made amendments and turned up but neither Makoto Hasebe nor Stefan Aigner was able to overcome Hamburg's goalkeeper Rene Adler.
However, both sides pressed without success for the winner in the closing period.
With this result, 14th placed Frankfurt stay in touching distance to the drop zone whereas Hamburg climb on the 10th position of the standings for the moment.
The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: front-runners Bayern Munich host newly promoted Darmstadt, Monchengladbach see Cologne, Berlin face Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim encounter Mainz and newly promoted Ingolstadt clash with relegation threatened Bremen.
