Muscat, Sep 16: The Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish, MCCP ( Sts. Peter & Paul Church – Ruwi) will be organizing the Annual Konkani singing competition for their members and children. As officially announced, the Annual Konkani Singing Competition 2007 will be held on 21.09.2007 at 12.00 noon in the Main Parish Hall of Sts Peter and Paul Church - Ruwi. The official sponsors for this annual event are Easter Overseas LLC, Standard Chartered Bank, W. J. Towell & Co. LLC (Building Material Division) and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Beryl Rodrigues and Fly.
Omantel is the main sponsor for all MCCP Annual events of 2007 –2008. Ideal Tailors, Muscat Pharmacy and Marmul Tours and Travels are the major sponsors.
As informed by Victor Baptist Pais and Leera Aranha, the coordinators of the Annual Konkani Singing Competition 2007, MCCP will be having the honor of distinguished judges from the United Arab Emirates and certainly it will be a great privilege for all the participants of Mangalorean Community in Muscat. The judges are the finest in the Konkani Music industry having tremendous experience of Konkani music.
There will be a prize distribution ceremony immediately after the competition. Prizes also will be distribution of the winners of the Annual Drawing Competition 2007.
Dilip Correa, main coordinator of Cultural, Spiritual and Community Services Committee speaking to www.daijiworld.com said - “For the first time in MCCP's history, we will be having a group competition with a family theme which co-relates to the MCCP's annual theme 'Borem Kutam Bori Samaj' (Good family, Better society). All the three distinguished judges we have chosen from UAE will be the main attraction of the event. Our honorable judges have loads of experience in Music, Konkani culture and literature. We are not disclosing their names right now due to the competitions confidentiality requirement. MCCP members have shown a great enthusiasm and there will be a huge turnout for this Friday's event.”

General Rules for Konkani Singing Competition for Children:
* Singing Competition will be held on Friday, 21.09.2007 in the Main Parish Hall from 12.00 noon.
* Songs will be in KONKANI and solo only. No religious songs or hymns will be permitted.
* Participants should be present fifteen minutes prior to the competition at the venue.
* Children participating in the competition will be divided into six groups, as mentioned above.
* Time duration: 3 minutes. Half minute grace period will be given, however, after this duration, there will a deduction of 5 marks.
* A participant can be accompanied by one musician only. The accompanying musician will not be entitled for any prize. Electronic musical instruments are not allowed during the competition.
* There will be three winners in each group. However, organizers reserve the right to reduce the number of prizes if adequate participants are not registered for the particular group.
* Decision by the nominated Judge/s will be final and no further correspondence of any nature will be entertained by the Executive Committee.
Additional Rules for Konkani Singing Competition for Adults :
* There will be three categories: Solo, Duet and Group. For solo and duet competitions, participants must be 18 years and above. For duet, participants should be one male and one female. Group must be of a family nature with 4 members, married couple with two children. Participants for Group Competition are requested to highlight MCCP’s annual theme “Good Family Better Society” (Borem Kutam, Bori Somaj) in their performance.
* Participants should be present fifteen minutes prior to the competition at the venue.
* Time duration :
Solo : 3 minutes.
Duet : 4 minutes.
Group : 5 minutes.
Half minute grace period will be given for all categories, however, after this duration, there will be a deduction of 5 marks.
