Mumbai, Feb 8 (IANS): On the 75th birth anniversary of Jagjit Singh on Monday, Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali has remembered the gems given by the ghazal king to the world of music.
"Jagjit Singh-ji introduced a new style of ghazal by introducing western instruments beautifully. The beauty of this fusion was that he kept himself rooted to eastern melody and style and always chose the right poetry and mostly complemented it with the right notes," Ali told IANS.
He added that Jagjit Singh's music appealed to both the mass and niche listeners.
"His beautiful melodies will always keep ringing in people's ears," he added.
Shafqat has many Bollywood chartbusters to his credit, but he says "ghazal is one of his favourite genres and something that has been a part of his family tradition for years.
Ali is currently judging a music reality show for Zee TV called "Asia's Singing Superstar" along with Shankar Mahadevan.
