Puttur, Feb 5: A LPG tanker fell across the road after colliding with a cargo vehicle that was moving towards Bengaluru at Neerakatte near Uppinangady on national highway 75. The accident occurred on ThursdayFebruary 4 night, resulting in traffic block for a long time.
The gas tanker coming towards Mangaluru from Bengaluru was empty. As such, a major tragedy that otherwise would have happened, was averted. The two vehicles came face to face when negotiating the road bend at Neerakatte, after which the tanker lost balance and fell by its side across the road.
Tanker driver, Kuppuswamy from Tamil Nadu, was injured in this accident. Uppinangady police who rushed to the spot, cleared the road for traffic by arranging to shift the tanker with the help of a crane. Traffic on the highway came to a standstill for about two hours during this period.
A huge pit is located by the roadside at spot where this accident happened, and the tanker fell across the road close to this pit. Had the vehicle fallen a few feet away from the current spot of the accident, the tanker driver's life would have been in peril, locals said.
