London, Feb 3 (IANS): Arsenal head coach Arsène Wenger has said they lacked conviction in their 0-0 draw against Southampton in the English Premier League (EPL) and added that his side need to improve in front of the goal.
The Gunners were frustrated by the Saints on Tuesday night, with Fraser Forster producing a number of fantastic saves to deny the likes of Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Alexis.
Arsenal have failed to score in their last three EPL games and Wenger says his side needs to improve their finishing, starting against Bournemouth on Sunday.
"You expect their keeper to have a good game but I believe as well we had very poor finishing. It's difficult to find a player in our team basically who had no chances today," Wenger told arsenal.com.
“We came out with a 0-0, with the experience we have in our team, that’s disappointing. It’s frustrating because we put a lot of energy into a game like that. We created a lot of chances of top quality and couldn’t finish."
The draw resulted in Arsenal moving down a place to be fourth in the EPL table. They have 45 points -- same as Tottenham Hotspur -- but are behind on goal difference. Leicester City lead the charts with 50 points, followed by Manchester City, who have 47 points.
"I think we have to look at ourselves and start to finish with a bit more conviction. The way we took our chances was not good enough and that’s why we dropped two points," Wenger said.
"What is terrible is that our performances are not bad. That is worrying because with the quality of the performances we had, we didn’t take the points and that’s very difficult for the players to take as well," the Frenchman added.
