Goa becoming 'sin city' of India: State Congress

Feb 3 (Business Standard): Goa Congress chief Luizinho Faleiro today alleged that the state was turning into "sin city" due to rising prostitution, drug menace, and casino culture.

"It is very unfortunate that Goa is turning into a sin city. There is alarming growth in casino activity, gambling, prostitution and drug menace," Faleiro claimed while talking to reporters here.

The leader said Congress is working out a plan to take up the issue at the national level against casinos operating in river Mandovi and escalating instances of substance abuse.

Admitting that it was the Congress-led government that allowed casinos in the state, Faleiro slammed the ruling BJP-led government for failing to move out these vessels from river Mandovi.

He pointed out that BJP had made shifting of casino mounted vessels away from Mandovi as their election plank, but have forgotten their promise after coming into the power.

Faleiro said 80 per cent of visitors in casino are Goans and tourists come here to gamble only during weekends.
