Margao, Sep 11: To prevent any untoward incident during the Ganesh festival in Goa, the police department has taken steps to install metal detectors at the entrances of the pandals, besides posting two or more constables there to ensure people's safety and security.
When contacted in this regard, DIG Ujwal Mishra said that the metal detectors would be installed wherever required and people would be provided with full security during this festive season.
As part of security measures last year also metal detectors were erected at the entrance of the pandals of Ganesh Mandals.
Goa normally has 400-odd 'Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals’ and they would be given security, Mishra told Daijiworld correspondent.
He also said that the department was finalizing the list of Mandals, which could be in more sensitive areas and where the potential trouble could be averted.
Although there is no threat of terrorist attack in Goa, the police department, not taking any chance, is fully prepared to tackle any problem.
While Ganesh Festival is just five days away, the police have begun thorough patrolling at night time and every moving vehicle is being checked.
