Panaji, Sep 11: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Shantaram Naik on Wednesday demanded that election commission of india should derecognize BJP for trying to destroy the basic structure of constitution.

"BJP is following a dangerous trend by disrupting proceedings of Parliament, and therefore, Election Commission should derecognize the party for trying to destroy the basic structure of Constitution," said Naik, who is also a member of Rajya Sabha, in a press release here.

Naik added that the BJP's attitude could pose a serious threat to the democracy in the country.

"Several political parties have time and again branded BJP as a fascist party and their attitude to shun any debate in parliament indicates that the party is closer to fascist ideology than the ideology enshrined in the constitution of India," he added.

Naik further said that when lacs of people in the country were rendered homeless with several hundreds losing their lives, BJP did not allow a debate on the flood situation to go on smoothly.

When, in the Rajya Sabha, a debate ultimately took place in stages, the home minister was not even allowed to reply to the debate, he said.

Despite two earlier debates in both houses of parliament on nuclear agreement issue, when the Government agreed to hold another debate and when they were even listed in the list of business last week in the Rajya Sabha and this week in the Lok Sabha, the BJP adamently gagged the voice of both Houses by disrupting the proceedings, he alleged.
