Berlin, Feb 1 (IANS): Mainz have signed Danish Under-21 international Emil Berggreen with immediate effect, the German Bundesliga team has confirmed in an official statement.
The 22-year-old striker joined from second division side Eintracht Braunschweig and has penned a three-and-a-half-year contract with Mainz. However, both sides agreed to keep silence over further contract details, reports Xinhua.
"Emil Berggreen is a tall and robust striker with a good technique, who can hold the ball in the box. His skills will give our squad additional quality. We are now delighted that he is part of our team," Mainz coach Martin Schmidt told the club's official homepage on Sunday.
Berggreen joined from Eintract Braunschweig where he scored 10 goals in 26 appearances since his arrival in 2015.
"I am pleased to get the chance to play in the Bundesliga. Mainz is the perfect club for me because it is known that they prepare young players to become good Bundesliga players. I want to be one of those players from Mainz," Berggreen said.
The new arrival is since 2014 part of Denmark's Under-21 national team. He provided one goal in five caps ever since. Mainz encounter bottom side Hannover at the 20th round of Bundesliga on Saturday, February 6.
