Udupi, Jan 28: A workshop titled ‘News which matters’ for journalism students and media persons was inaugurated on Wednesday, January 27 organized by district administration Udupi at Atal Bihari Vajpayee auditorium in Manipal.
Deputy Commissioner R Vishal in his introductory note said "News is nothing but what makes a better society. It will affect the emotional fabric of the people. News should be always rational."
SP K Annamalai as chief guest said "Media is the reflection of society and it should lead the society. A journalist should maintain finesse and do in-depth analysis of a matter."
Nagesh Hegde, senior journalist also spoke on the occasion. He opined that news should be in right place at right time and in a right way.
B S Satish Kumar, senior assistant editor, The Hindu said “A journalist should develop study hobbies. Sensationalism will not stay for long time. Some eagerness in making breaking news may break other’s life. Perspective of media has changed and we have commercialized the system and the competition is based on revenue model."
Jyothi Irvatturu, senior correspondent, Praja TV said "Media should bring changes in the society. Visual media should think in a large way."
There was also an interaction between officials, students and media persons.
Rohini, Udupi district information department officer compered the programme.
