Goa BJP welcomes Shah's re-election as party chief

Jan 25 (Business Standard): BJP leaders in Goa today welcomed Amit Shah's re-election as the party President and expressed hope that he will lead the saffron outfit to victory in the upcoming Assembly polls.

The 51-year-old Shah was today elected unopposed as the BJP chief for a second term.

"We welcome the re-election of Amitji as the National President of the party. We will win all the upcoming elections under his leadership," Goa BJP President Vinay Tendulkar said.

Goa will go to polls in the first half of 2017.

Altogether, 17 nominations were filed proposing the Gujarat leader's name for the post and one of them was signed by Tendulkar, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, his Deputy Francis D'Souza and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar.

As the news of Shah's re-election poured in, BJP workers and leaders in Goa broke into celebrations and burst firecrackers.

Union Minister Shripad Naik, the BJP Member of Parliament from North Goa, tweeted: "Heartiest congratulations to @Amitshah ji for being re-elected as National President of Bharatiya Janata Party".
