Udupi, Jan 24: The members of Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, district unit staged a protest on Sunday January 24, in front of clock tower, against human resource development minister Smriti Irani and cabinet minister, Bandaru Dattatreya over the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula of Hyderabad University.
Condemning PM Modi led BJP government, DSS leader, Jayant Malpe demanded to appoint a commission to investigate Rohith’s suicide case and asked to get the full report as soon as possible.
“If PM Modi has any morality, he should dismiss HRD minister Smriti Irani and Dattatreya from the cabinet. One who makes discrimination on the basis of religion and caste should get punishment under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe act. The government should compensate his family with one crore,” he demanded.
He further alleged that no Swamijis who support secular state have given any statement on Rohith’s suicide issue so far. They have not even condemned the incident.
Speaking to the protesters, Manjunath Giliyaru demanded to reveal the truth behind Rohith’s suicide case. “There is a need to find out logical end to this inhumanity. This is the right time to think about people who are involved in this work and punish them”.
Protesters burned effigies of HRD minister Smriti Irani and Dattatreya during the protest.
Paniraj, Sauharda Samiti leader, Rajshekhar, district president of Sauharda Samiti, Manu Nejaru, Cyril Mathias, Naveen and others were present.
