Hockey India welcomes two new academies


New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): Hockey India (HI) on Thursday announced the inclusion of two new academies as Academy Members. The academies will be used as training centres for the development of young hockey talent in the country.

The Chandigarh Hockey Academy operates under the supervision of Sarita Malik, who is the director. The academy is owned by the Administrator of the Chandigarh union territory and will operate out of the Chandigarh Hockey Stadium, in Sector 42.

The second one is the S.G.P.C. Hockey Academy, in Amritsar, which was founded in 2013 under the supervision of five Olympians -- Harcharan Singh, Surinder Singh Sodhi, Ajitpal Singh, Pargat Singh and Rajpal Singh.

The academy is headed by Balwinder Singh. The institution, since its inception on 2013, has been host to a number of junior men tournaments. It is funded by the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Amritsar.
