Puttur: Consumer complains against cloth store, succeeds

Puttur, Jan 21: A consumer from near Kumbra in the taluk had approached Dakshina Kannada district consumer grievances redressal forum against a cloth store in the town, which had refused to exchange a dress he had bought, after it was found to have been torn.

The forum not only ordered the shop to reimburse to the consumer cost of the cloth, but also Rs 8,000 more in the form of compensation and expenses.

T Hameed from Tingaladi in Kedambady village had bought a Shervani for his son in October 2015 from a cloth shop here during October 2015 by paying Rs 3,200. He found out later that it was torn. When he went to the cloth store to exchange the Shervani, the shopkeeper refused. Hameed then approached the consumers forum. The district forum, which accepted the petition and held hearing, ordered the cloth store to refund Rs 3,200 to Hameed towards cost of Shervani, in addition to compensation amount of Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 towards expenses, after finding the store guilty of deficiency in service.
