Bantwal, Jan 20: A woman has filed a complaint at rural police station here, accusing her husband of pestering her for more dowry and meting out physical and mental torture on her besides posing a threat to her life in a bid to realize his demand.
Badruddin, who has been accused in the case, happens to be the son of Abdul Khader, a resident of Sajipanadu junction of Sajipanadu village. He had married a girl from Deralakatte about 18 months back. The lady said in her complaint that 100 sovereigns of gold and ten lac rupees in cash were paid to Badruddin in the form of dowry as per his demand.
It is said that soon after marriage, Badruddin, with the support of his family members, started pressurizing his wife to bring more dowry. He also posed her life threats in case she fails to meet his demand. It is said that on learning that the situation is turning adverse for him, he fled to Dubai without keeping his wife or other family members informed.
The accused, working for a jewellery store in Dubai, had accompanied his wife there. After marriage, he had taken his wife to Dubai. After returning home, as per the advice of his family members, he left his wife behind and returned to Dubai alone, the complainant alleged.
The lady has named her father-in-law, Abdul Khader, mother-in-law, Saramma, Badruddin's brother, Twahir, his wife, Sahameema, and Badruddin's brother-in-law, Saiduddin Bin Hyder, as abettors in this crime.
She says that Badruddin plans to live alone in the Gulf, leaving her to fend for herself at the house of her in-laws. She has requested police to take legal action against those harassing her, and do her justice. Policemen said they have registered a case and undertaken investigation. The complainant holds an MBBS degree, and the police suspect that differences have arisen between her and her husband's family also because of her willingness to pursue her profession, which is opposed by her husband and his family members.
