Udupi, Jan 17: The two-day cartoon fest was inaugurated by G K Prabhu, director, MIT Manipal on Sunday January 17 at Mother of Sorrows Church campus, Udupi.
The cartoon fest has been organized as part of Paryaya celebrations by the Cartoon Kundapra and Dr AV Baliga Charities.
After inaugurating the fest, G K Prabhu said, “Cartoons have the power of attracting people's attention. A cartoonist can convey social impact messages in his caricature. The cartoons sensitize people over various issues. Now-a-days cartoonists are united unlike past years.”
Satish Acharya, a cartoonist, Cartoon Kundapra has been successfully organising cartoon festivals in Kundapur. The cartoon fest has been organized in Udupi this year.
Nearly 120 cartoons and caricatures of 16 cartoonists will be displayed at the festival.
Children were thrilled to be part of this exhibition.
The cartoonists P Mahamad, Jayaram Udupa, Jeevan Shetty, Santosh Sasihitlu, Subrahmanya M, Gopi Hirebettu, Chandrashekhar Shetty, Panju Gangolli, James Vaaz, Ramakrishna Herga, Keshav Sasihitlu, Raviraj Halambi, Chandra Gangolli, Gibi Kalaikar, Ganesh Hebbar and Acharya were part of the programme.
Caricature competition and a dialogue writing competition were held during the programme. Some of cartoonists drew caricatures on the spot. Caricatures were also printed on mugs and t-shirts during the fest.
Fr Fred Muscaranhas, Mother of Sorrows Church, Vanita Pai, writer, Manipal, Panju Gangolli, Dr Kiran KV Acharya, Aditi art gallery and others were present.
