Beltangady, Jan 15: A youth from Chitradurga district, who was found to be harassing women passing by the road since sometime, was assaulted by locals and handed him over to Bantwal rural police station. The youth, it is said, kept irritating women walking by Kooriyala road by passing indecent comments.
The accused has been identified as Timmeswamy, son of D M Duggappa from Bolagarahatti in Chikkagondanahalli, Chitradurga district. Some days back, he was found to be irking women at Ballur, Kolattamajalu. The women had expressed anguish at this behaviour, and local youth, who had approached him, had let him go after giving some sane advice.
The youth, rather than learning a lesson from the incident, shifted his activity to Kooriyala road, where he began to call women passing by the road and talked in obscene manner. His behavior had also given rise to a feeling of fear among women and children, as he looked like a mentally disturbed person. Some also claim that he was involved with some thefts.
The policemen, who have taken this man into custody, are investigating.
