US dollar mixed against other major currencies


New York, Jan 15 (IANS): The US. dollar was mixed against other currencies on Thursday.

In late New York trading, the euro lost to $1.0860 from $1.0875 of the previous session, and the British pound decreased to $1.4408 from $1.4445. The Australian dollar went up to $0.6993 from $0.6961, Xinhua news agency reported.

The dollar bought 118.15 Japanese yen, higher than 117.84 yen of the previous session. The greenback moved down to 1.0060 Swiss francs from 1.0065 Swiss francs, and moved down to 1.4351 Canadian dollars from 1.4361 Canadian dollars.

The performance of dollar has been affected by latest data.

On the economic front, in the week ending January 9, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 284,000, an increase of 7,000 from the previous week's unrevised level, the US Labour Department said on Thursday.

In a separate report, the department said the US import prices declined 1.2 percent in December, driven by a drop in fuel prices.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was up 0.16 percent at 99.09 in late trading.
