Mangaluru, Jan 13: 31st South Zone Inter University Youth Festival- WAVES 2015 will be hosted by Mangalore University in association with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the ministry of youth affairs and sports, Government of India, New Delhi from January 18 to 22 at Mangalagangothri campus.
This was revealed by Prof K Byrappa, vice chancellor, Mangalore University here at a press meet held at Ravidra Kala Bhavan, University college, Mangaluru on January 13.
Addressing the media persons K Byrappa said "Andhra Pradesh, Telangala, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Pondicherry are the participating states in the youth festival. About 30 out of 61 member universities of AIU are taking part in the five days event. About 1500 participants are attending the programme. The aim of the festival is to promote national integration and communal harmony, peace and prosperity. The 30th youth festival was held at Tumkur University. Mangalore University is hosting the festival for the second time. Previously it was hosted by Mangalore university in 2003."
"Distinguished multi language cine actor Prakash Rai will inaugurate the youth festival on January 18 at 4.00 pm in Mangala Auditorium, Mangalagangothri. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi,Chancellor, Yenepoya University and Sampson David, Joint Secretary, AIU, New Delhi will be the chief guests. Prof K Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University will preside over the programme."
"The Special attraction of the inaugural programme is the procession by the participants of the festival in their distinct, unique cultural attires and symbols at 3.00 pm. It will commence from Prof Sheik Ali Road (Double road near VC's Bunglow) and wind up at the Mangala Auditorium. The procession will be adjudicated by the approved Judges of AIU. About 25 competitions will take place at 5 stages simultaneously on Mangalagangothri Campus. These stages are named after five well known literary figures of Dakshina Kannada. They are Mangala Auditorium 1- Dr Shivaram Karantha Vedike, Mangala Auditorium 2- Dr Kayyara Kinjanna Rai Vedike, Science Quadrangle- Giribale Vedike, Old Senate Hall-Panje Mangesha Raya Vedike, Humanities Block-B M Iddinabba Vedike."
"The competitions will be judged by the AIU recognized judges. The main competitions in the youth festival include music, dance, theatre, fine arts and literary events. Mangalore University team consisting of 38 students from different colleges affiliated to Mangalore University is participating in the youth festival. The University has made elaborate arrangements for the stay and participation of the competitors from different states."
Prof P L Dharma, convenor, SZYF 2015, Prof T D Kemparaju, registrar and others were present.
