Mercedes Benz sells record 13,502 cars in 2015


Pune, Jan 9 (IANS): German automobile giant Mercedes Benz on Saturday said it had registered its highest-ever sales in a year in India in calendar year 2015, selling 13,502 cars.

"(Year) 2015 has been the most successful year for Mercedes-Benz as we registered our highest sales ever in India, selling 13,502 units and growing by 32 percent. This gives us confidence that 2016 will be an exciting year in many ways," said Mercedes Benz India MD and CEO Roland Folger in a statement.

The trend of double digit growth in sales at Mercedes Benz has been continuing for the past three years - 32 percent in 2015, 13 percent in 2014 and 26 percent in 2013. Mercedes Benz sold 10,201 units in 2014.

Growth momentum in 2015 was lead by sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment with 100 percent increase in growth followed by AMG and Dream car portfolio with 54 percent and sedan portfolio by 42 percent.

C - Class model unseated E - Class was the top seller for 2015 with 90 percent growth, the statement said.

"In 2015, Mercedes-Benz India also added three new products, GLA, CLA and the MercedesMaybach S 500, to its local production portfolio and doubled the production facility to become the country's largest luxury car manufacturer," the statement said.

"Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz increased its cumulative investment in its production facility to Rs.1000 crore, the highest for any luxury car maker in India," the statement added.

In 2016, the car maker plans to introduce 12 new products and inaugurate 10 new outlets.
