Udupi: Councilors let off steam at CMC general meeting

Udupi, Jan 9: Unsuitable construction work by the respective engineer resulted in raucous at the city municipality council general meeting here on Friday January 1.



The meeting began with the question and answer session. Many of the councilors complained about irregularities in the respective wards namely installation of street lights, waste disposal, drainage system, water supply, stray dogs in the city.

Malpe councilor, Prashant Amin showed his outrage towards the Mescom officials for their negligence over street light work.

Amin also alleged that the DC is president of Malpe beach development committee, but no such developmental works have been seen so far.

Dinkar Shetty Herga stressed that officials should make frequent follow-up checks of every project on hand.

Nearly Rs 18.30 lac has been invested in facilities provided at Malpe beach such as parking system, surfing facility, and free wi-fi. Ten lifeguards have been appointed, 30 grenade benches installed, Rs 75 lac of beach cleaning machine and the responsibility for the maintenance of the beach has been handed over to private institutions said the commissioner.

With regard to preparations for the paryaya, P Yuvaraj, president said the CMC has received nearly Rs 3 crore towards the paryaya and a proposal of Rs 5 crore has been sent to the government.

Rs 58.40 lac will be spent on road repair work, Rs 40 lac on drainage system and Rs 1 lac on parking lights. As many as 60 new toilets (including mobile toilets) have been set up in and around Udupi city.
