Kampala, Jan 6 (IANS): The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has confirmed that Uganda, Sudan, Zanzibar and Burundi will host tournaments in 2016.
Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye told Xinhua on Tuesday that after their executive meeting in Khartoum, Sudan on Monday, it was decided that Uganda will host the under-17 and women's championships.
He also said that the 2016 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be held in Sudan, while the Kagame Club Championship moves to Zanzibar and Burundi hosts the under-20 championship.
Musonye also disclosed that they have put in place a five-year strategic plan that will put emphasis on youth/women football and technical development.
"Within this, we are overhauling the statutes to ensure that there is discipline at all levels within the 12 member associations," he added.
Musonye said the new chairman of the regional body, Mutasim Gafar, also pledged to revamp Cecafa and ensure that it competes with the rest of the zones in Africa on equal footing.
Somalia's Arab Said was also nominated by the executive committee as the vice chairman and Leodegar Tenga as the honourary chairman.
