Mumbai, Jan 3 (IANS): On a high after beating the legendary Lee Chong Wei here on Sunday, top Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth said starting the year with the win over the Malaysian is something special, adding that he will look to continue his form in the Premier Badminton League (PBL).
World No.9 Srikanth, representing Bengaluru Top Guns in the PBL, got the better of former the World No.1 Chong Wei, of the Hyderabad Hunters 15-12, 6-15, 15-7, to win the men's singles contest in style at the National Sports Club Of India (NSCI).
"It is great to start the year with a win over such a great player like Chong Wei. He has been the top player in the arena for such a long time and beating him in the year's first match is just great," Srikanth said.
"It will give me a lot of confidence from here on to play even better in the upcoming matches and do better. I played aggressively in the match. The smashes I hit were perfect."
The 22-year-old pointed out that he will look to carry the momentum in upcoming matches.
"After this win I will aim to perform and give my best in other international tournaments," concluded the Guntur-born.
