Panaji, Dec 30 (TOI): Pop singer and Padma Shri awardee Remo Fernandes on Tuesday filed an intervention petition before the children's court and stated that he has no objection if the court monitors the investigation of a case registered against him in the alleged verbal abuse of a minor girl.
The victim girl was knocked down by Remo's son Jonah on December 1. Subsequently, the incident of abuse by Remo was reported.
In the intervention petition filed by Remo's counsel Rajeev Gomes, the intervenor has stated that certain facts have to be placed before this court "which have not been placed by the applicant and the non-discloser of which have a tendency of misleading this court".
Remo also stated that the alleged crime is a false accusation levelled against him and he is unwarrantedly victimized and harassed by the complainant, social activist Aires Rodrigues.
Remo also said that he left Goa for Portugal on December 7 and the FIR was registered on December 19 in his absence. He has also said that he informed the police that he is out of station and would arrive back to Goa only on January 8. While stating that it is highly impossible for him to reach Goa before that date, Remo said he is making all efforts to be in Goa before that date.
Rodrigues and public prosecutor Krishna Sanzgiry raised objected to admitting the intervention petition. Additional session judge and acting president of Goa children's court, P V Kamat, has adjourned the matter till January 1.
North Goa superintendent of police Umesh Goankar in a written reply to the court has stated that the allegation made by Rodrigues that the accused is trying to abuse his power and political contacts to thwart the investigation of the case is baseless and without any foundation, as no documents in support of the contention of the applicant have been enclosed.
