Chitradurga, Dec 29: After a Volvo bus of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation tumbled in the early hours on Monday December 28 near Seabar in the city, four persons including a lady doctor lost their lives. While three of them died instantly, fourth one breathed his last when being taken to hospital.
The deceased are Satish Ambekar (60), Rohan Naik (35), both from Maharashtra, Muruganandan Kurupiyar (40) from Chennai, and Nasik-based medical practitioner, Shretashree. Over 23 persons including the bus driver were injured in the accident. All of them were admitted into the government hospitals here and Davanagere.
The bus was going to Mumbai from Mangaluru. Within a few minutes of leaving the bus stand here, it fell on the road leading to Davanagere. The driver is blamed of over-speeding. District superintendent of police, M N Anuchet, assistant superintendent of police, K Parashuram, and other police officers visited the spot. A case was registered in rural police station here.
One of the injured, Siridevi from Mumbai, who had become unconscious after suffering head injury in the accident, and who had been admitted into SS Hospital at Davanagere in an ambulance, complained after gaining consciousness that her Mangalya and ear rings worth Rs 1.75 lac have been stolen by someone when she was unconscious. A case was registered at the town station here about this incident.
