Mamata wants table tennis academy in Bengal


Kolkata, Dec 29 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she wants a table tennis academy to be built in the state.

"We are thinking of building a modern table tennis academy. We will help in every way possible," Banerjee told reporters at the 77th Cadet and Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championships.

State Sports Minister in charge Aroop Biswas said: "We have two places to choose from in Kolkata. Or else we will have it somewhere near north Bengal."

The state government awarded Rs.2 lakh to veteran paddler Mouma Das for her services. She also received a cash prize of Rs.50,000 from the West Bengal Table Tennis Association.
