Puttur, Dec 28: On Sunday, the tahsildar raided a bar that was open at Nettana town in the taluk and ordered its closure, saying that bars are not allowed to operate during the time council election was in progress. However, the bar was allowed to open again after a gap of 30 minutes.
The bar had been operational, although it was generally perceived that outlets dealing in liquor should not function during elections. Kadaba special tahsildar, B Lingaiah, raided this bar and ensured that the bar closed its doors. After half an hour gap, the bar began to transact business as usual.
It is gathered that bars which are located within a one-kilometre radius from polling booths need to close down during election. The excise officials noted that the bar at Nettana was 1.5 km away from the nearest polling booth. The special tahsildar said that the bar was allowed to reopen on the basis of this information.
