Bike - Maruti Omni accident, pillion rider loses life

Puttur, Dec 28: A person riding the pillion of a motor bike lost his life after the two-wheeler in which he was travelling got involved with an accident. A Maruti Omni vehicle hit the said motor bike a little distance away from Mardhala school near Kadaba in the taluk on Sunday December 27 evening, taking away the life of Raja Achary (55).

Jaya Achary (33), son of Raja Achary, who was riding the motor bike, survived with minor injuries in the accident. He is out of danger.

Raja Achary used to do wood work in association with a relative named Mohan Achary at Bilinele. Raja Achary and Jaya were going to Bilinele from Neriya by Kadaba-Subrahmanya road when tragedy struck. Raja Achary, who suffered deep injuries in the accident, breathed his last when being moved to a hospital.

The locals said that the much-hyped 108 ambulance service of the government did not reach the accident spot in time after a call was made. Thereafter, Bilinele gram panchayat former president, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, took the injured in his car to Kadaba community hospital. From there, the injured were referred to Puttur hospital. The locals said that the area has ambulance service at three places, Kadaba, Alankaru, and Subrahmanya, but expressed anguish at their non-availability in times of crisis.

Kadaba police have registered a case.
