Brazil's Goias take legal action after relegation

Rio de Janeiro, Dec 26 (IANS): Brazilian Serie B side Goias has taken legal action demanding the country's football confederation (CBF) investigate alleged breaches to new financial rules.

Goias were relegated to the country's second tier last month when they finished the Serie A season in 19th place out of 20, reports Xinhua.

According to Goias, some clubs have not adhered to rules that oblige them to pay salaries on time and meet all of their tax obligations.

Among the penalties for offending clubs is possible demotion from their current division.

It is estimated that Brazilian clubs owe more than 5 billion (about $1.26 billion) in unpaid taxes, salaries and image rights.
