Remo case: Court seeks replies from top cops


Panaji, Dec 25 (TOI): The Goa children's court on Thursday December 24 sought replies from the North Goa superintendent of police (SP), sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Panaji, and Agasaim police inspector following a petition filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues seeking monitoring of the probe about a case of alleged verbal abuse of a minor girl by pop star and Padma Shri awardee Remo Fernandes.

The minor girl is a victim of an accident caused by his son on December 1. The alleged abuse occurred on a later date at the Goa medical college and hospital, Bambolim.

Additional sessions judge and acting president of Goa children's court P V Kamat, has instructed the police officials concerned to file their replies by December 28.

Rodrigues, in his petition, had said that the accused is politically influential while the victim hails from a poor family. "The accused is trying to abuse his power and political contacts to thwart the investigation of the case registered against him," Rodrigues' petition read.

Rodrigues also said he was apprehensive of attempts to shield the accused by undue and uncalled for interference in the investigation of the case.

Agasaim police on Wednesday issued a lookout notice against Remo following his failure to appear before them in the case. Remo, now known to be a Portuguese national had through his counsel, informed, the Agasaim police that he is abroad and will return to Goa on or before January 8.
