Kasargod, Dec 23: Ecumenical Christmas celebration and launch of Chennai Calamity Fund were organized at the town hall here under the aegis of Kasargod Christian Fellowship on Tuesday December 22.
Local MLA, N A Nellikunnu, inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the need for people from all religions to live together in a harmonious atmosphere. He called upon people to live as a part of the society and respond to the good and bad which happens to others. He felt that there is a need to do away with the widening inequality between different classes of people.
Archbishop of Thalassery Diocese, Mar George Njaralakatt, in his presidential address-cum-Christmas message, felt that there is dearth of harmony among the people. He advised people to always remember that they are humans first, and caste and religion are secondary in nature. He called upon people to live in an atmosphere of mutual cooperation.
Priest of Bela Mother of Sorrows church, Fr Vincent D'Souza, Rev A G Mathew of St Thomas Marthoma Syrian Church here, priest of Syrian Orthodox Church Pilikunje, Rev T S Mathai, Rev Raju Philip Zacharia, and superior of Jaimatha Convent, C Immaculate, were among those who spoke on the occasion.
Kasargod St Joseph church priest, Rev Mani Melvattam, welcomed. Talapady Mariyashrama church priest, Nelson Olivera, proposd vote of thanks.
Programmes like enactment of the birth of Jesus Christ, comedy shown, carol singing, bible dance drama, Santa Claus and other Christmas-related programmes were held thereafter.
