Beltangady, Dec 24: A private Volvo bus lost its balance when negotiating a bend near Sornad in Panjikallu village. As the driver failed to control the movement of the bus that went haywire, it fell by its side, causing injuries to nine occupants. The incident occurred on Wednesday December 23 morning.
Vasanti (62), and Vishwanath Kenjar (66), both from Kenjar in Udupi district, D N Pushpa (46) from Ramakrishna Nagar Mysuru, Anirudh (33) from Udupi, Stephen D'Souza (23), a resident of Puchchemogeru in Mangaluru, Sudha (40) from Kudlur in Chamarajanagara district, Sulochana (48) hailing from Udupi Miyyar, Sunita (33) from Udupi Bailoor, and Anirudh (8) from Parkala near Manipal, were injured in the accident. It is gathered that the bus had 35 passengers.
The bus was on its way from Mysuru to Kundapur via Puttur, Moodbidri, Karkala and Manipal.
Out of the injured, eight have been admitted into a private hospital in Mangaluru, while three who required advanced care, have been taken to Manipal Hospital, it is gathered.
108 ambulances which rushed from B C Road and Siddakatte, and also locals helped the injured to get admitted into hospitals, and the others to come out of the fallen bus. Bantwal fire brigade personnel, and policemen from rural station in Bantwal also assisted in the operation. A case about the accident was registered in Bantwal traffic police station.
