Goa to set up common staff selection commission

Panaji, Dec 21: Government will soon set up a common staff selection commission to recruit C and D category employees in Government Departments in the state.

Speaking as chief guest after unfurling the national tri-colour at the 54th anniversary of the liberation of the state of Goa at a function held at Parade Ground Campal, Panaji today the chief minister said the setting up of the common staff selection commission will help facilitate filling up of the vacancies of C and D category in various government departments at a time rather than publishing advertisements in the newspapers to fill up two or three posts in the aforesaid category in any department of the government. There are instances that to fill up two vacant posts the departments receive thousands of applications. As a result these candidates who aspire to get a government job unnecessarily waste their valuable time besides CSSC will help to maintain transparency in the selection process he added.

Earlier the chief minister inspected the parade by police contingents and marchpast by home guard, fire services, NCC and several school children. He also presented awards to those who have contributed and rendered services in different fields.

The chief minister recalled the supreme services of freedom fighters and martyrs who struggled and laid down their precious lives for the cause of Goa's liberation.

While reviewing the progress, achievements, initiatives, programmes and welfare schemes of the government, the chief minister said additional 293 services will be added to the existing 497 time bound delivery services in the state. He said, the government is committed to provide transparent governance and is responsive to the people’s needs.

Stating that the benefit of the welfare schemes of the government such as DSSS, Griha Aaddar, Ladli Laxmi, Goa Scholar scheme, Mamata among others is derived by many needy and deserving people in the state, the chief minister said more thrust has been accorded on promotion of IT and education sector in the state. An area admeasuring 5 lac sq meters has been acquired to setup electronic city at Tuem in Pernem, while 3 lac sq meters area has been acquired to set up IT part at Chimbel in Tiswadi Taluka.

Consultants for this purpose have already been appointed, the chief minister said adding that once this is accomplished, the IT students from Goa need not have to go to other states for securing jobs.
Commenting on the unemployment problem the chief minister said investment promotion policy has been notified by the government. He said, in the next five years 50 thousand jobs will be created by setting up environment friendly projects with investments worth Rs 25,000 crore. He said that government has given approval for new agricultural college one each at Pernem, Porvorim and Quepem. The chief minister also touched upon some pending issues which require redressal such as evacuee property at Mayem, regularization of illegal structures. The foundation stone for the new bridge across Zuari River will be laid in the next 15 days besides construction of bridges at Talpona and Galgibag in Canacona will also be taken up he informed.

The chief minister further informed that the crime rate in Goa has reduced by 34% whereas the crime detection rate has been increased by 17%. This shows that the efforts initiated by the government to maintain law and order has yielded desired results. The chief minister also expressed concern over the increase in the number of accidents in the state. He said in order to minimize the accidents, the government has introduced little police concept under which so far 1200 students are enrolled.

The chief minister sought cooperation of the people to make Goa an ideal state and at the same time appealed to the employees to donate their one day salary to chief ministers ‘Chennai’ relief fund.

On the occasion the chief minister presented chief ministers police (gold) medal to Karthik Kashyap, superintendent of police, Shekar Prabhu Dessai, superintendent of police, Atchut P Dessai, head constable for their meritorious services and Goa chief minister’s fire service medal for their meritorious services to Sakharam M Pednekar, sub-officer and Narayan V Takkar, leading fire fighter. Students drawn from various schools presented cultural programmes. The chief minister also distributed prizes to the winners of the march-past on the occasion.

The Goa Liberation Day ceremony was attended by union minister of state for Ayush (independent charge) Shripad Naik, minister for tourism Deeluip Parulakar, minister for craftsmen training Deepak Dhawlikar, minister for RDA Alina Saldanha and Siddarth Kuncolienkar, Pandurang Madkaikar, Rohan Khaunte, all MLA’s, chief secretary R K Srivastava, Sunil Garg, IGP, secretaries to the government, HOD’s, freedom fighters among others. Dr Dayanand Rao compered the function.
