Mumbai, Aug 26: Fifteenth Konkani Day was celebrated colourfully by Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra at Karnataka Sangha AC hall, Matunga Mumbai yesterday."Konkani is a very rich language. But Konkani people do not read and write. They only speak. Also the influence of English is so much that the present children are not attracted towards their mother tongue. Such measures need to be taken by various organisations to encourage the literture, talent and culture for the upliftment and growth of the language" said the industrialist Mr. Manohar Kamat who was the guest of honour of the programme.
Mumbai Janet L D'Souza was the chief guest of the programme. "Konkani is the language of God. Only in Konkani we remember God while wishing or thanking anyone. Living Konkani in homes is more important in this globalised world. Konkani is so unique and musical language that it can attract anyone. Konkani should get its required status here in Maharashtra. I will try my best to get necessary honour from the government part" she promised.
Cultural programme was contributed by Roicy Sequiera Vakola, Calista DSouza Mahakali, Flynie DSouza Malvani, Mrs Irene Rodrigues & group Malad, Jyothi DSouza ^ group Goregaon, Rebecca Lobo and group Bandra and Roicy Sequiera and group Vakola.
Well applause was received for the hilarious comedy play "Zanvyam Vor Vor Mhojem ..." written by Percy Urva and played by Malvani-Malad Drama Troupe. The artist were Felix DSouza Malvani, Cyril Castelino Ahmedabad, Irene Rodrigues Malad, Sylvia Albuquerqe Orlem, Winston DSouza Malad, Ashli Albuquerque Orlem, and Neswin Pereira Malad.
Sounds and lights management was done by Gregory Sequiera Niddodi.
Konkani bhasha Mandal president P. N. Shanbaug welcomed the gathering, vice president John DSilva gave vote of thanks. Secretary Joy Paladka spoke on the importance of the 15 Konkani Day celebration.
Prizes were distributed to the talent contest by the chief guest and the guest of honour. The first prize was won by the Mahakali Konkani group. Runners up was received by Mahakali Konkani group
