Paris, Dec 18 (IANS): Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria hopes the French football giants splurge a lot of money to sign Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
The Argentina international admits any deal would cost a lot of money but insists the Parisians have the financial capability to sign his compatriot who is a four-time "World FIFA Player of the Year" award winner.
"I hope that PSG can bring Messi to Paris one day. Everything is possible. It is all about money. It would take a lot of money to sign a player like him," Di Maria was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk on Thursday.
"It would be great for Ligue 1 and French football in general if Messi joins PSG. PSG have the resources to sign him. Messi could come to Paris."
Messi, currently in Japan for the Club World Cup, will find out on January 11 if he has been crowned the world's best player ahead of Barcelona teammate Neymar and Real Madrid's Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Di Maria has backed Messi to claim the individual award for the fifth time after a stellar year in which he guided Barcelona to the treble.
"Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar all scored a lot of goals and had spectacular years," the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player said.
"But the Champions League often plays a big role in who wins it and Barcelona won that competition. That's why I think Messi has the best chance. He won the treble and has a good chance," the 27-year-old added.
