Madrid, Dec 16 (IANS): Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has said he has a firm and resolute desire to make the Spanish football club bigger every day.
Atletico are currently sharing the lead of La Liga with FC Barcelona following their 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, standing five points ahead of neighbours Real Madrid, reports Efe.
Cerezo said on Wednesday in a Christmas lunch speech before the media that Atletico is having great times in both sports and institutional sustained growth, moving to turn the club into a global brand.
Grateful to the club fans, whom he called "the best in the world," he recalled the contribution of former goalkeeper Miguel San Roman, who died this year, describing him as a real Atletico supporter.
For 2016, the president explained that the club has "many challenges" including an under-construction stadium, which will be Atletico's home ground in a year and a half.
