Tokyo, Dec 16 (IANS): Tokyo stocks surged on Wednesday morning as US shares, rising overnight on higher oil prices, sent overseas bourses on upward curve and spurred investors here to recoup Tuesday's losses.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average leapt 395.93 points, or 2.13 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 18,961.83, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange surged 33.42 points, or 2.22 percent, to 1,535.97.
Notable advancers by the break were led by securities, information and communication and insurance-linked .
