Bengaluru, Dec 15: The anti corruption bureau of the state, which was totally headless for two weeks after its chief resigned , will have a new Upalokayukta with immediate effect. Governor Vajubhai Vala has approved the name of Justice Ananda (62) for the post on Monday, December 14.

The post was vacant since Justice S B Majage demitted office on July 17 after the completion of his tenure. The governor had thrice rejected Justice K L Manjunath's name for the post. Justice Ananda will have a full five-year term. Jurisdiction of news Upalokayukta will be known after he assumes office.

Justice Ananda’s name was recommended recently by a committee headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, opposition leaders and Chief Justice of the High Court.

The then Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao went on leave from July 27, the day his son Y Ashwin was arrested on charges of extortion. After keeping away from work for over four months, Justice Rao stepped down on December 7, after the motion to remove him was admitted in the Assembly. Another petition seeking to remove Upalokayukta (II) Justice Subhash B Adi was filed later. Justice Adi was precluded from discharging his duties from December 1.
