Udupi, Dec 14: Thieves broke into the Nandikur branch of Syndicate Bank here late night on Sunday December 13 and decamped with cash estimated at Rs 2.34 lac.
The incident came to light on Monday December 14.
It is learnt that the thieves used gas cutters to break open the window of the bank and the locker. After looting the bank, they threw away the gas cyclinder and other equipment next to the railway track a short distance away.
The police recovered the gas cylinder. Fingerprint experts arrived at the spot and investigated.
Sources said that the Nandikur branch of the bank has no CCTVs or burglar alarms. Hence, the police are finding it tough to trace the culprits.
The investigation is being led by circle inspector Sunil Nayak.
Padubidri police have registered a case.
