Mangaluru, Dec 12: Muhurat was held for the classic drama 'Aunkwar Avoi' at Don Bosco mini hall on Thursday, December 10. The drama written by legendary writer late A T Lobo is presented by A T Lobo Foundation.
Renowned poet Melvyn Rodrigues presided over the Muhurat event. Rodrigues with Celine Lobo and Noel Simon Lobo the office bearers of A T Lobo Foundation, John Permannur the director of the drama, actor Alwyn Pinto and author Richie John Pais lighted the lamp signalling the Muhurat of the drama.
Alice Lobo briefed about the past work of A T Lobo foundation. She said “A T Lobo foundation endeavours to preserve and spread the literature of great Konkani writer A T Lobo. He had written 15 novels and 18 dramas. Lobo's books were reprinted, a drama 'Bomma' based on his short story was played and a seminars on A T Lobo's literature were conducted. The enactment of this drama is part of our mission in taking A T Lobo’s literature to Konkani lovers."
Melvyn Rodrigues in his presidential speech recollected his brief association with A T Lobo. He talked about the cultural richness in Lobo's literature, greatness in his prose and realism in his dramas.
John Permannur said after almost 50 years in the drama field, it was a pleasure and honour for him to direct a drama written by A T Lobo.
Celine Sequeira proposed vote of thanks. Alwyn Pinto compered.
The drama, which was first staged five decades back, has been staged several times by different directors and actors over the years. The present crisp version has been rewritten by Richie John Pais.
'Aunkwar Avoi’ which means 'Unmarried Mother ' will be stage don Saturday, January 23, 2015 at Don Bosco at 5.30 pm. Meena Rebimbus and Vishwas Rebimbus will render voice for the songs played during the drama.
