Santiago, Dec 12 (IANS): The coach of Chile national football team, Argentinean Jorge Sampaoli, on Friday dismissed media rumours that he plans to quit the team.
According to local daily La Tercera, Sampaoli was rumored to announce his resignation on Friday, after the head of the national soccer federation pleaded guilty in the United States to corruption, reports Xinhua.
Chile's National Association of Professional Football (ANFP) issued a statement on Friday with Sampaoli's declaration.
In the statement, Sampaoli said, "I have repeatedly said I am waiting until Jan. 4, when the new authorities of the ANFP will be elected."
He added, "once the authorities are legally appointed, I will talk with them to define the terms of my work, in keeping with the contract I signed."
"Obviously, I will also present them with my project for the years ahead, hoping it will also be approved by the new officials," said Sampaoli.
