Railway minister flags off first double-decker Goa-Mumbai Shatabdi

Panaji, Dec 6 (IANS): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday flagged off the inaugural service of the Goa-Mumbai double-decker air-conditioned Shatabdi train, which will run thrice a week between Goa's Madgaon railway station and the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai.

The train was flagged off from Panaji via video conference by Prabhu, along with Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik.

Speaking on the occasion, Parsekar said the fully air-conditioned double-decker train was the first of its kind in the country and would help in boosting tourism.

"The train will help tourists to come to Goa in more numbers and in a more comfortable way. I am glad that the train, which will bring the tourists over to Goa, is in itself a novelty being the first fully air-conditioned double-decker train of its kind in India," Parsekar said.

The double-decker train has eight compartments with a seating capacity of 120 in each compartment and will cover the distance between Madgaon and LTT in around 12 hours.

problem there is only single track, how many trains will run on one track?
More number of trains will delay traveling time.
If two tracks are laid and put to use/operation, more number of trains can run services and punctuality will improve a lot. Accidents will also will reduce drastically.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is really doing wonderful job.
He is people friendly, understanding peoples requirements.
He has already initiated, two tracks in the place of one, and electrification in Konkan Railway.
One most important job he should do in priority to protect lives and to improve railway punctuality is build ROB or subways, specially where traffic is more.
Should Complete Thane-Kalyan, 5th and 6th track in priority as this sector is very densely populated. Railway is a only source of transport, so many are falling and dyeing while traveling in compelling over crowded trains.

Sir, I agree with you in toto, albeit, this joy will be short-lived if the Malbari Keralites known to use their strong power lobby will pull this one too to Kerala. At all costs, their efforts should be thwarted at any cost unitedly by our in(efficient) Mangalore ministers unlike theirs (Keralites). It is high time they wake up from their deep slumber and do a lot of good work for the welfare of Mangaloreans.

A step in the right direction. This is is not only a tourist attraction but also a boon for travelers between Bombay and Goa.

It is advisable that this kind of trains are also introduced on the konkan railway between Mangalore and Goa.

The introduction of trains between Mangaluru and Goa depends on traffic....Already Intercity express train is running between MAQ and Goa, and unfortunately it is facing shortage of commuters, and the railways are thinking of stopping it...Only PASSENGER trains are fit to run between these two stations...Thanks...Doubling of railway track should be the TOP Priority....

Double decker trains have been running in India from many years, but, double decker AC trains started in 2011. They run between many cities in India presently. This new LTT-Madgaon train is first double decker AC train of its kind (See the word used here "first of its kind"). All the seats in this are CC and since Mumbai-Goa is busy route, it is a welcome step for us and tourists. But, as per Travel Agent, since this train takes much more time than others and also there are no A1, 2A and 3A seats, foreign tourists like those trains that have these facilities.

All Bhakts - Please note The first ever double-decker train was flagged off from Howrah to Dhanbad during UPA government tenure.

The service started on October 1 in 2011. With the launch of this train, India became the third country after USA and England to operate double-decker trains.

Cant understand why bhakts are praising feku.

When Herald case comes no comment from you .But now when some positive news about Modi Govt comes you jump to criticize without any knowledge as to what is written here and what the news all about
    1. Read the heading First Double Decker Shatabdi is this one only
    2. The train you are quoting started by UPA was an express train .Please get educated yourself what is express and what is Shatabdi
    3. Your UPA made Howrah -Dhanbad express Train last ran in December 2014. Since 1st January 2015 , the train has been Cancelled/Discontinued. At present the train is laying unmaintained in platform no.16 of Howrah station. This train is considered as one of the most unsuccessful train in this route. According to recent news reports the train will be scrapped sooner then later.

Thus the credit of opening this express train goes to UPA Govt
And the debit of closing the train goes to NDA Govt which made the train NPA.

Becoz...NM & Juliet are blind followers of Italian lady. They appreciate only UPA works even if huge scams out of it they are ok. When it comes to NDA they are blind and can see only negative thoughts and comments and they call themselves as secular. This type of mindset who cry intolerance in country.
