Tokyo, Dec 11 (IANS): Tokyo stocks closed higher on Friday bringing an end to a three-day losing streak as investors bought shares oversold previously with sentiment lifted by US equities gaining ground overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 183.93 points, or 0.97 percent, from Thursday to finish the day at 19,230.48, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange advanced 9.16 points, or 0.59 percent, to close the day at 1,549.51.
Among the day's notable advancers were pharmaceuticals, warehousing and iron and steel-linked stocks.
The turnover on the last trading day of the week was 3,065.9 billion yen ($25.12 billion).
