The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has been monitoring the process to select appropriate land required to built the IIT campus. Officials said two properties in Loliem-Polem and another at Poinguinim are considered for the project, of which one will make it to the final selection.
Officials said that the state level panel has already conducted preliminary inspection of these three places. The Loliem site is topping the list for IIT campus.
Goa in past had identified a tract of land at Dhargal in North Goa’s Pernem taluka which was turned down by MHRD. The union MHRD has currently stopped the temporary campus which was functional from Farmagudi based Goa Engineering College.
The state is on look out for appropriate place to have prestigious IIT. The proposals for setting it up at Betki-Khandola and Betul (in North and South Goa respectively) were also rejected by the union ministry.
