Goa, Dec 10: An ambitious projects promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been turned down by Goa government run body claiming “the land required for them are under ligitation.”
National Institute of Marine Biology and Biotechnology has been refused the land at Quittol village in South Goa by state run Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The project wanted two lakh square metres of the land in this rural village.
The IDC in its recent meeting said the required land is under ligitation.
Prime Minister during his France visit in April, had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the France Government for setting up an Institute of Marine Biology and Biotechnology in India, with Goa being identified as the preferred destination. A proposal was moved to the Goa government’s Department of Science, Technology and Environment, who had identified around two lakh square metres of land at Quittol Village in Betul for the project.
The IDC during its Board meeting held on December 4, unanimously resolved to inform the State government that the land in demand is not in possession of IDC as it is already been allotted to M/s Betul Hospitality Service for setting up food park and presently the matter is in the Court. “Hence it is not possible to accept the proposal of establishment of new Institute of Marine Biology and Biotechnology at Quittol village, in the land allotted to M/s Betul Hospitality Services,” the minutes of the meeting reads.
