Udupi, Dec 10: In connection with murderous assault on four young men at Chandranagar and Punchalakadu areas of Kalathur village near Kaup recently, a team of district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB), working in association with Shirva police, succeeded in arrested two of the attackers.
The arrested people are Ashraf alias Asli (30) from Janata Colony in Padoor, Chandranagara, and Abdul Sattar (29), a resident of Guddekeri Mallar. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody till December 23. The police said that the duo had absconded after the above assault. They were arrested in connection with an attack on a person named Dinesh Devadiga.
Policemen said that another accused in the case, Illyas (24) from Janata Colony, is being treated at Ajjarkad hospital after getting injured during above attack. He is under police surveillance, sources added.
Two more accused in this case have gone underground, and police have been trying their best to nab them. Relating to other cases which occurred in the same day, four more men are yet to be arrested, policemen added. In relation to attacks that day, Dinesh Devadiga (28), Rajesh Kulal (29), Kishore Kulal (24), and Ashok Acharya (25) had suffered injuries, and they had been treated in different hospitals.
District superintendent of police, Annamalai, had visited the spot on the night of the incidents, and guided investigations. He had instructed DCIB and Shirva police to take urgent steps to locate and arrest the culprits.
DCIB inspector, Jayashankar, Shirva station house officer, Johnson D'Souza, and others arrested the above people from near the railway tracks at Belapu village on Tuesday evening. They were produced in the court here on Wednesday.
