Splendid silver jubilee of Muscat Mogaveera Koota concludes

Muscat, Dec 9: Twenty five years of togetherness is definitely a milestone to celebrate. The members of Muscat Mogaveera Koota gathered together to highlight their association jubilantly on November 27, 2015 at the Grand Hall of Hotel Al Falaj. Silver jubilee celebration was an evening filled with myriad of events, full of colour, mirth, joy, music, magic, dance and artistry.



Entrance and Hall Decoration:

The entrance was magnificently decorated in traditional style with banana plant, garland made of mango leaves, fresh flowers, Gendale (tender coconut) and apt lighting. A well decorated balloon filled arch bordered above the main door. All were greeted traditionally and women were given fresh Mangalore Mallige flower, Haldi-Kumkuma and rose water was sprinkled on each guest. Children dressed in Omani costumes welcomed the guests which was an added attraction.

Backdrop on Stage:

Pictures of Yakshagana artistes and the scenes of coastal region adorned the main backdrop depicting the culture and heritage of Magoveera community. It was really an eye catching.

Grand welcome ceremony to guests of honour:

The eminent distinguished guests were welcomed in the traditional style with great pomp and the rhythmic musical beats of ‘Chende’ & Symbols and the renowned ethnic ‘Pilivesha’ (tiger dance) by the members of the community. The guests of honours were- Nadoja, Dr G Shankar, chairman G Shankar Family Trust, Karnataka government Rajyotsava awardee, prominent social worker, Yashpal Suvarna-state secretary, BJP Yuva Morcha, president, DK Fish Marketing Federation, Ananda Suvarna-business man & prominent social worker, BN Narasimha- president, Mogaveera Sangha Bengaluru, Hiriyanna Kidiyoor, prominent social worker.

Along with guests of honour and special invitees, all the members of MMK gathered on either sides and warmly welcomed the guests with due respect.

Koni Prakash Naik, vice president, MM Koota, delivered the welcome address to the gathering in Kannada and English. The distinguished guests were presented floral bouquet and a shawl by the committee members. 

Dr Shekar Salian, president, Muscat Mogaveera Koota welcomed and presented to Nadoja Dr G Shankar, Ramanand Kunder to Yashpal Suvarna, Shrinivas Shriyan to Anand Suvarna, Mr & Mrs Sharath Kumar  to Shri & Smt Hiriyanna Kidiyoor, Shashi Puthran to BN Narasimha.

All other special invitees who graced the occasion from Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait and Mangalore were also greeted with floral bouquet and a shawl.

Lighting of the lamp:

As is customary and traditional, the proceedings of the 25th year silver jubilee celebration- Muscat Mogaveera Koota began with lighting of the lamp. Dr Shekar Salian and Ramanand Kunder escorted the honorable guests to the rituals. The background score was a ‘Slokha’ rendered by Ganesh Beejadi. 

‘Bonding beyond boundaries’: 

Koni Prakash Naik, vice president of Muscat Mogaveera Koota, at the outset congratulated his majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the friendly people of Oman on the occasion of its 45th glorious national day and also thanked his majesty and the entire ministry for the support extended to the Indian people to continue with such social/cultural activities in Oman. He also spoke at length about the entire journey from the inception to the present scenario of activities and functions, the various achievements, creation of MMK logo, blood donation camp, charity services, visits of eminent sports personalities and the first ever Volley Ball Tournament – Mogaveera Cup, organized by MMK sponsored by Mangalore Spikers in Muscat.

Musical feast ‘Ganamrita’:

A musical programme by Ganesh Beejadi and Kalavathi Puthran, enthralled and regaled the members with good selection of songs and popular numbers in Tulu, Kannada and Hindi such as, ‘Naav Aaaduva Nudiye Kannada Nudi’ ‘Mokeda Singari’, ‘Shiva Shankari’ Gori Tera Gaav Bada Pyaara’, ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’, ‘Naanu Kolike Ranga’, ‘Kaanadha Kadalali’, etc. Divya Kotian also rendered some beautiful Kannada and Hindi duet numbers with Ganesh Beejadi. 

A beautiful medley piece of flute led by Lokesh and Bhaskar Basrur with the orchestra of other instruments was presented and enjoyed by all. 

Cultural tapestry of music and dance:

Divya Kotian , on the centre stage, compered and  welcomed the participants for the first performance- a beautiful dance with peacock feathers and the finale piece with huge green leaves arranged to depict Lord Ganesha. 

Participants were: Chetana Vishwanath Bangera, Shreya Girish Kanchan, Dhriti Ravi Kanchan, Ithi Arun Thingalaya, Niharika Pushparaj Amin, Akanksha Ranjan and Disha Devanand Amin(coordinator- Sahana Girish).

It was followed by another foot tapping dance number performed by Mithil Ravi Kanchan, Harshil Padmakar Mendon, Jeeval Padmakar, Sohan Girish Kanchan, Anuj Umesh Kumar, Aryan Umesh Kumar, Hitesh Shivram Kanchan, Shartah Devanand Amin, Niketan Pushparaj Amin, Sushmitha Shesh Kanchan.

It was now time for instrumental music–fusion. The flautist Lokesh and keyboard player Bhasker Basrur along with other musicians mesmerized the audiences. Kashvi Lokanath Puthran presented a solo recital- ‘Peacock Dance’ for a Tulu song.

The ladies team presented a beautiful dance, with different coloured costume, to a medley of songs depicting the native flavor and cultural heritage.

Participants were- Roopa Umesh Kumar, Vandana Padmakar Mendon, Dr. Seema Ranjan, Sureka Prasad Karkera, Sumana Naveen Kotian, Ramya Gurdas Kunder.

Thereafter, a power packed and energetic Bollywood dance performance with lots of Latkas and Jhatkas, with beautiful expression and full of movements was presented by Shreya Girish Kanchan, Dhriti Ravi Kanchan, Ithi Arun Thingalaya, Niharika Pushparaj Amin, Akanksha Ranjan and Disha Devanand Amin.

The guest, Suresh Salian from Kuwait, sang a Tulu song highlighting the essence and glory of Tulu Nadu and the language. The coordinators, lead by Sahana Girish and choreographers contributed to the cultural effect of the event.

Asia’s leading speed painting artist, Vilas Nayak, exhibited his mettle and mesmerized the entire audience with his symphony of colour strokes in conjunction with the strains of music. He believes that empty canvases breathe life and the brush of strokes found forms and shapes.

All the eyes held captive by his artistic display. Each and every one was held in captivity, as their attention was just glued to his canvas guessing what is going to come out of the canvas. Deft strokes, amazing creations and quick work were evident and prominent.

Vilas Naik painted a Yakshagana artist, in synchronization with the music of Yakshagana song. His painting of Muscat Palace and Taj Mahal monuments was mind blowing. 

Entertaining Magic Show:

Set to music, Satish Hemmady and team presented a volley of magical tricks and kept the audience spell-bound. A great number of umbrellas from various materials were spun in no time. It was a rain shower of umbrellas of different colours, all over the stage.  It was sheer deft movement by Mr. Satish Hemmady. His assistant (team members) too presented a lively Comedy Magic Episode.

Felicitation of guests, founder members and sponsors:

The honorable guests, the founder members and the major sponsors of the event who were the backbone support for the event, were felicitated in the traditional style with a shawl, memento, dry-fruit basket. MM Koota members were very proud of the great support.

Nadoja Dr G Shankar was felicitated by the president of MMK, Dr Shekar Salian Yashpal Suvarna was felicitated by the vice president Prakash Naik, Koni Hiriyanna Kidiyoor was felicitated by Ramand Kunder, vice president of MM Koota Ananda Suvarna was felicitated by Vishwanath Bangera Narasimha Beejady was felicitated by Padmakar Mendon.

Founder members, Dr Shekar Salian, Prakash Naik, Ramanand Kunder and Shirish Kumar were felicitated by Hiriyanna Kidiyoor along with major sponsors, Ashish Kumar, Devanand Amin, Sahana Girish Kanchan (on behalf of Girish Kanchan), Shashi Puthran and Ashok Kanchan. 

The souvenir ‘MatsyaSangama’ was released by the chief guest Nadoja Dr G Shankar in the presence of the distinguished guests, committee members and the editor, Praveena Ramanand Kunder. Shesh Kanchan highlighted the essence and contents of the souvenir. The guest of honour congratulated the Muscat Mogaveeras and appreciated the events. They expressed their happiness and wished them success always.

Leeladhar Baikampady, president, Muscat Mogaveera Bahrain, presented a memento to Dr Shekar Salian, president, MMK.

Shirish Kumar conducted the stage proceedings. Vidya Puthran conducted the proceedings of the awards giving ceremony. Certificate of Excellence and Trophies/Gifts were awarded to children of MM Koota members for their outstanding achievements in education, sports, etc.

The achievers were: Shashank Sadanand Amin, Khushi Ashok Kanchan, Pratamesh Santhosh Kumble, Arhan Ranjan, Roshan Lokesh Kunder, Mithil Ravi Kanchan and Hitesh Shivaram Kanchan.

The choreographers and make-up assistant were presented a memento by a member of MMK for their wonderful presentation and training the members for the dances. Ashok Kotian presented a memento to respective member of MMK.

Mementos were presented to the musicians of the orchestra and the artists Vilas Nayak, Ganesh Beejadi, Kalavathi Puthran and Satish Hemmady.  Sharath Kumar conducted the stage proceedings.

Raffle draw was conducted to pick ‘Lucky Mogaveera’. The first prize a 40” TV, sponsored by Ashish Kumar, was won by Veerendra Suvarna. Dr Ranjan pulled out the winning coupon for the draw. The second prize, mobile phone, sponsored  by Girish Kanchan, was won by Sandeep Maindan.

Sujatha Lokesh, joint secretary of MMK proposed the vote of thanks. She thanked Majan Events, and Al Falaj Hotel, the artists, media and all those who supported directly and indirectly for the success of this splendid event.

A good start culminates in a good finale. All the members of Muscat Mogaveera Koota present in The Grand Hall, Hotel Al Falaj were treated to a sumptuous dinner, great entertainment, melody, art, music, dance and magical tricks. 

Mementoes were presented to each and every member as a token of appreciation. The memento was designed by the Executive Committee of Muscat Mogaveera Koota.
